Mechanisms of action:

• Increases feed intake – a similar odour to that of maternal milk stimulates voluntary intake in young animals.
   
• Increases pancreatic enzyme secretion – volatile fatty acids (VFA) stimulate pancreatic juice secretion. Butyric acid produces the highest level of amylase secretion.
   
• Acts on the intestinal microflora – stimulates the growth of the beneficial microflora and inhibits the growth of the pathogenic microflora, thus improving microbiome balance.
   
• Acts on intestinal villi – increases the size of intestinal villi (30%), nutrient absorption surface area and intestinal enzyme secretion (40%).
